The meek, the mess and the ugly.

What a relief! We do not have to have an opinion on every little idea under the sun. We can be meek. This was on my mind when one of our Bible study home groups met...

So as we met last week during a Faithbridge small-group Bible study, an author described meekness as a behavior. Yet people often excuse abrasive conduct by saying, “That’s just my personality,” especially when making a point. We need a spiritual tool that reveals both our strengths and our areas for growth so we can serve the Lord more faithfully. We have one: the Bible.

I often return to the subject of personality. Have you ever felt stuck in your relationship with God, reached an impasse, or wanted to learn from a poor decision? In those moments, I remember that God values a rich diversity of people—not only those who think and act like me. So I pray, “God, deepen my meekness.” Yes disciples of Jesus are called to be meek, not weak.

Over the next few Sunday mornings, I’ll share messages about biblical characters and may highlight familiar examples of each personality type. I hope this study strengthens your spiritual growth and cultivates the fruit of the Spirit in each of us for God’s glory.
